Maxine Thirteen is a self-taught, figurative painter whose creations often explore bygone eras, the surreal and the macabre. She has exhibited her art in numerous spaces throughout the St. Louis area, including The Angad Arts Hotel, Foundry Art Centre, St. Louis Artists' Guild, Missouri History Museum, St. Louis Public Library, 31art Gallery, St. Charles Community College, Art St. Louis, and The Last Hotel. She has provided a variety of artistic services to individuals and businesses throughout St. Louis, including 4Hands Brewing Co, The Golden Hoosier, Hatch'd STL, and Grandel Wrestling. Her works have been written about in the Riverfront Times, Ladue News, St. Louis Post Dispatch and St. Louis Magazine. She was voted "Artist of the Year" in the 2022 STL Bucket List Local's Choice Awards.
Maxine uses many different mediums, but her focus is oil paints. Most of her paintings are created in oil on canvas, but some works use wood panels, acrylics paints, ink and whatever else she feels inclined to pursue.
Maxine's figurative oil paintings embrace the aesthetic appeal of glamorous, vintage expression while sometimes incorporating macabre or mysterious undertones.
